Oh boy… I am super excited to share this post with y’all!
Once upon a time, there was a boarded up garage with a half gutted one bedroom living space above it.
This house was bank owned when our friends bought it. My husband, Patrick was their realtor… Thankfully, they saw the potential to invest in this place and make it a lovely family home. The house sits on 20 private, serene acres not very far from town with beautiful mountain views from the upper living area.
When they asked me to do the architectural design for the addition, I was flattered and stoked about the challenge!
Basically, we decided to add a house on to the existing space, increasing the square footage from 1,008 to 2,804. They wanted 4 bedrooms and 3 full baths and a covered upper deck that was facing west toward the mountains.
This was how the upper living area looked when they bought it.
The kitchen and living room were one room.

So… Are you ready to see the after pictures? I’m excited to show you!
But first, many thanks go out to our friends who let me show up at a moments notice to take photos. I gotta tell you, I can NOT take any credit for the interior design or finishes that they chose. And, oh my word, this gal has fabulous decorating skills! I’m not very good at photography but honestly, I couldn’t take a bad photo in this house… It’s gorgeous!!!

Ok… I probably shared more photos than I needed to, but sheesh, who wouldn’t like to look at this beautiful home! Doesn’t this girl have MAD decorating skills?!
Not only is this house amazing, but the homeowners are amazing as well. They have this cute bench outside… Pretty much sums them up as people.
They live it!
So,I just want to leave you with a quick recap.
What a blessing it was to be a part of this project. I really love how it turned out! I hope you enjoyed reading about it.
PS… I don’t have any technical architectural design training… I just say that because maybe you think about designing or re-designing a home. I just want to encourage you that there are a lot of affordable programs out there that aren’t that hard to learn. I use a Chief Architect software called Home Designer Pro. Once I have my plans finished, I give them to a professional drafter and engineer to make the final technical adjustments for the construction blueprints. I’ve designed and built or remodeled 8 homes using this process.
