Log Home Restoration… After Photos

Log Home Restoration… After Photosfeatured

Hey there!  It’s a winter wonderland here in Bend, Oregon.  Seems like the perfect time to be taking photos of a little log cabin in the woods.  Fresh snow always make everything more enchanting, doesn’t it?

Last week I shared the story behind the cabin that I’ve been renovating and the before photos.

Today, I’m going to reveal her makeover.  I wish I was able to stage the house to really give you the full vision that I had for her, but I just couldn’t pull it off.  Too much other work that needs attention, and honestly, this house is going sell just fine.  She’s got a lot going for her all on her own.

A little about the design thought behind this project.  Since we were essentially starting from scratch…

I thought that it was important to maintain the lodge-like feel but incorporate more contemporary finishes so that it might appeal to a larger audience.  Log home resale can be tricky.  Most people either love log homes and dream about living in them, or they have zero interest.  I am hoping that by giving it some more modern finishes, that it will sway some unexpected “zero interest” buyers in her direction.

So let’s get on with it.

She looked like this when I started working on her.

She was missing windows, her decks were falling apart, and her front entry was all out of sorts.

Now she looks like this…

She now has proper front steps, a new roof(that you can’t see right now), new windows, doors, and her logs have been stripped, sanded, caulked and resealed.

Also on the first floor is a bedroom and full bath with a large laundry closet.

This is the hallway from the kitchen toward the back patio that connects to the detached garage.  Door on the left is a kitchen pantry.  Bathroom is behind pantry and bedroom is on the right after this hallway closet.

All of the logs on the interior were also sanded down and resealed.  The drywall is new with a light hand texture and all of the interior millwork and doors are new.  I’m so impressed with how tight the sheetrockers were able to get the drywall to the logs.  That was a lot of work, my friends!

I forgot to take pics of the double closet in there… Oh well.

Now let’s go upstairs.

It’s hard to tell in the pictures, but the carpet is a very pretty gray, with brown and tan flecks.  Super soft and really ties in well with the other flooring and gray doors.

The upstairs guest bath…

This bathroom used to be the only bathroom upstairs.  It had a doorway into the hallway and one into the master.  We created an ensuite in the master and walled off the entrance to the master from this bath.

The pictures with the natural light look SO much better!

Anyway, on to the master…

Sadly, I never took before photos of this room.

With the addition of the new bath, we had to create two new closets. One is a double (left).  The other is a single. I say the big one goes to the lady of the house!

There are plenty of windows upstairs that allow a lot of natural light to flood the space.

Master bath…

Nothing too fancy, but still nice to have a dedicated master bath. It also has a linen closet.

These next 2 photos were taken on a different day with a wide angle lens. While they are not great pictures, they give you a better sense of scale.  The room is actually quite spacious.

Well, thanks for stopping by to check it out.  I hope you enjoyed this tour.  She’s going to be for sale in January once I finish the garage/shop… Sadly that is lagging behind by a few weeks..
